Detailed petrographical, mineralogical and chemical studies of the Villalbeto de la Peña (L6) chondrite are reported. Abundances of 36 chemical elements were determined in four different samples of the meteorite. The measured abundances are within the range observed for L6 chondrites for most elements, except for Ce, Pd, and Os, which are particularly abundant in Villalbeto de la Peña. From the volatile element abundance there are some indications of minimal loss due to shock heating. The meteorite displays a high degree of recrystallisation. The matrix is mainly composed by olivine and orthopyroxene with interstitial feldspar, with chromite and apatite as the most common accessory minerals. Barred olivine-pyroxene chondrules are the most common type, although some porphyritic olivine chondrule fragments and olivine-pyroxene microgranular chondrules have also been identified. Identified shock veins are mainly composed by troilite, Fe-Ni metal, olivine and pyroxene. Apatite, previously identified but no analyzed, is Cl-apatite.
