Abstract


The aim of this article is to raise and develop some of the classical laws of hydraulics, introducing features that allow its application to subsurface flow in general and particularly to karst hydrology. Whether the movement of groundwater in karst can be defined as flow through individual channels or whether it can be considered as a continuous medium with saturated holes in a solid matrix is pondered over. The work of Hagen (1839) and Poiseuille (1846), along with Darcy (1856) form the basic reference for this study (in Crespo, 2006). Contributions from Couette and Chezy (Rouse, 1951) on free flow over rock surfaces have been studied as well. There are several cases in which the laws of unidirectional laminar motion offer solutions that can be effective for defining the basic parameters of the flow of water in the subsoil.
