Abstract


The development of an intrusion state index (ISI) of a coastal groundwater body, which quickly and easily identifies the evolution of the qualitative state of an aquifer, is a priority for achieving a sustainable management of the groundwater. This paper shows the previous rules for defining this index. The methodology proposed employs only geometrical, piezometric and quality groundwater data.This intrusion state index (ISI) can be a useful tool for the management of coastal aquifer, because it can avoid the built of numerical models which are expensive and employ too much time. We will be able to calculate this index in almost all the Spanish coastal aquifers because there are historical data.
